I just attended two of Laura's courses, and they were outstanding. Laura was patient, dedicated, supportive and thorough, and I learned an incredible amount. I especially recommend her classes to teachers, librarians, administrators, educational technologists or anyone else working in education.
In September 2008, I had the privilege of attending my first Drupal training program as part of an extended workshop offered by Laura Scroggins (www.avalonmis.net)
Fast, Responsive, and professional are the words that come to mind when I am asked to describe Laura Scroggins. Laura and I talked about my website and I gave her an idea what I had in mind. Within two hours she had my site up and running! I couldn't be happier with my site or her service. I have no hesitation in recommending Laura Scroggins,
Laura has been one of the most pleasant surprises in my business travels. She is smart, dynamic and very personable. She has the most creative ideas and has been instrumental in the development of a new business venture for my company.
Her energy and business knowledge is contagious and I highly recommend her when developing a website. She keeps herself current on technology that keeps her and her clients on the cutting edge.
Laura Scroggins has been an excellent Drupal teacher and resource for my organization. After one, two-day session, Laura Scroggins taught my business partner and I the fundamentals of Drupal, despite our initial limited knowledge of website creation and Content Management Systems.
Laura Scroggins is a great Drupal trainer. She graciously let me into a very full class. She was encouraging and tried hard to remind her class how simple Drupal really is. She is was very dynamic and held her audience well.
I met Laura Scroggins at a two-day Drupal Fundamentals I & II workshop she led in early October. She began the workshop with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm--for Drupal, for our individual projects--and it didn't flag even as she demonstrated module after module.
My company decided to use the open source CMS, Drupal, for its online Resource Center. Navigating the world of a new software platform is always daunting, but especially under a tight deadline and with scant documentation. I looked for help and found it in Laura Scroggins.
My experience with Laura Scroggins was in the classroom. She has a gift for effective communication and retaining attention, and can mold and transform normally dry subject matter into living relevant material. Her skill set as a professor is most likely only matched by her tangible experience in the financial sector.
I have no doubt whatsoever that she will be as invaluable in any position she chooses to hold now or in the future...as she was as my teacher.
The question I get asked about Laura is, "what can Laura do?" The answer I tell my friends, colleagues, work-mates, and family is, "what can't Laura do!" I've known Laura for a long time and everything she set's out to accomplish, she accomplishes. She has done so with an intellectual capacity that is astounding.
Laura has a fantastic ability to problem solve. She is a wonderful communicator and teacher; she is a visionary and creative, she is a true leader. For me, one of the most important qualities about Laura is that her heart is in the right place.
Laura Scroggins was so helpful when I was wanting to build my business on ebay. I sell product on ebay and wanted to create a website that was more attractive than what they offered. She found a way for me to add a website and blog at no cost and it is beautiful!
I met Laura for the first time at Humboldt State University where she taught my Essentials of Finance class. On the first day of class, Laura came into the classroom with an aura of dynamic energy and collected confidence.
She greeted every student with eyecontact, a handshake and personable interest. I immediately liked her style and professionalism, for she was serious about us learning the material but had a wonderful sense of humor and balanced the serious side of finance with the humorous side of everyday life.
Laura Scroggins is a teacher who leads by example. She dislikes the traditional route of teaching in favor of more creative learning solutions. Instead of learning by rote memorization terms and equations, we learned concepts to apply to our own unique investment situation, using any mathematical models as needed. Many of my peers also enjoyed this non-traditional approach, as they felt they were learning on a higher level than their other courses.
Laura taught one of the first classes I attended at CSU Chico. Marketing 101, not earth-shattering subject matter and we all had to take it. My friends and I loved going to her class. It was inventive and engaging. Laura and I became friends outside of class. One afternoon at her office hours we were solving the problems of the world, Laura mentioned that she thought that the most important thing some one could do was to make sure they consciously maintained their style of life.
Laura Scroggins reminds us that people motivate the dollar - people define their finances and their lives. Laura takes humanity to the bank. How often do people believe that where there is money, there is humanity? I think the belief is rare, but the reality is prevalent. It intrigues me that people constantly wish or strive for the cornucopia of monetary treasure, yet simultaneously curse and mistrust those who have it.
